PIBC declares 2023 as Economic & Political Diplomacy year

Pak India Business Council (PIBC) has declared 2023 as year of economic & political diplomacy. This was decided in an executive committee meeting of PIBC presided by its Chairman Noor Muhammad Kasuri, here today. Office bearers of different chambers of comcommerc & Industry and representatives of various trade bodies also attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion Kasuri said that PIBC has completed 21 years while Pak India Joint Business Forum ( PIJBF) has completed 10 years since their inceptions. He said that the executive committee members have decided to make different arrangements, seminars, conferences and meetings as part of celebrations of the year 2023. The meeting also reviewed economic situation of Pakistan and various other issues including restoration of Pak India trade and stretched Cordial business and trade relation with India. Participants of the meeting prepared practical proposals to find out business opportunities forget Pakistani traders in different countries including, SAARC and Central Asian States.

LAHORE: The Pakistan India Business Council (PIBC) has welcomed inviting Pakistan to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, being held in Goa (India) on May 4-5 this year. In a statement, issued here on Sunday, the council appreciated Indian Prime Minister Narendara Modi for extending invitation to Pakistan for the SCO Foreign Ministers Summit. Chairman PIBC Noor Muhammad expressed the hope that the government of Pakistan would give positive response to the invitation. He said that meeting between high officials would pave the way for building an environment of confidence between the two nations. “This would help resolve disputes and bring prosperity in the region,” he hoped. He said that India had invited the UAE, Mauritius and other countries for the G 20 Summit 2023, being held in September this year, and urged it to invite Pakistan also to the crucial summit as well.

IMF: Inflation Peaking amid Low Growth

The January 2023 World Economic Outlook Update projects that global growth will fall to 2.9 percent in 2023 but rise to 3.1 percent in 2024. The 2023 forecast is 0.2 percentage point higher than predicted in the October 2022 World Economic Outlook but below the historical average of 3.8 percent. Pak India Business Council (PIBC) has congratulated Indian President Shrimati Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister Dr J. S. Shankar, Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goyal, Opposition leaders Shrimati Sonia Ghandi, Rahul Gandhi and all Indians living in various parts of the world on festival of Indian people. Chairman PIBC Noor Muhammad Kasuri said this in a statement here on today.

He added that Diwali is a festival of love, peace and fraternity. He expressed hope that all segments of the society would celebrate it as day of human solidarity. Kasuri urges political leadership of India and Pakistan to further boost up their efforts for peace and stability in the region.

"Pleasant environment and improvement in bilateral relationship would enable political managers to divert resources towards health, education, infrastructure and other acts of public betterment", he added. PIBC would continue struggle for improvement in trade and political relations between India and Pakistan, the Chairman said, adding that "We consider it as a journey of truth and enlightenment and we would continue it".

Pak-India Business Council (PIBC) Chairman Noor Muhammad Kasuri has called upon the governments of Pakistan and India to open trade for benefit of peoples of neighbouring countries. Talking to APP here on Sunday, he said that volume of trade between China and India was US$150 billion despite their differences in some areas. He said volume of US-China trade stood at US$750 billion, though they had clash of interests in many areas. “Why Pakistan cannot remove trade barriers with India,” he raised a question. He said economic cooperation between Pakistan and India was in the interest of both the nations. He said recent floods had devastated Pakistan’s economy and there was an urgent need of regional cooperation between the two neighbouring countries to rebuild its road infrastructure, economy, business and other sectors.

The Pak-India Business Council (PIBC) has urged the opinion leaders, parliamentarians, businesspeople, politicians and other sectors of society to start open debate on importance of Pak-India trade and business relations for economic stability in the region. PIBC Chairman Noor Muhammad Kasuri, while talking to APP on Sunday, said: “Let’s sit together and discuss pros and cons of suspension of trade between India and Pakistan.” He said that no-trade between two neighbouring countries was a loss-loss situation. He said the PIBC could play an important role in getting declared Pakistan and India most favoured nations for each other. He said due to concerted efforts by the PIBC, negative items list between Pakistan and India was reduced from 4,500 to 150 items. He said that both countries could exchange experiences in the fields of health, education, infrastructure, information technology and various other sectors. Ban on trade with India had resulted in loss of more than $10 billion to Pakistan in the past few years, he said.

India extended 37 Line of Credit worth USD 14 bn to 5 countries in neighbourhood.

New Delhi: India extended a total of 37 Lines of Credit worth USD 14.27 billion to Bangladesh, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka for 162 projects, the government told Lok Sabha on Friday. In reply to a question, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said another 222 Lines of Credit (LoC) worth USD 14.07 billion covering 357 projects have been extended to 42 countries in Africa.
